In a socialist system, you pay about 50 to 60% of your income in taxes to get what you want. So if you make $ 50,000, you would pay $ 25,000 in taxes.

In our current system you pay 28% tax at the top level. Most likely the employer pays for some of the healthcare expense and you have a little out of pocket. Our company is $ 300 for a family with a $ 25 co-pay. They pick up the total cost of a single employee.

Some companies do not offer healthcare due to the cost. If the govt would change the health insurance rules and regulations to allow you to buy it across state lines like you do car insurance, it would be way more competitive. But healthcare is so regulated, a insurance company has to spend millions on compliance issues for each of the states they work in.

So you will never have no copays unless we go to a universal healthcare, something that a large portion of the USA does not want.

NO euthanizing grandmas, I have a thing against that.

I only have a family of two, I think $ 500 a month would be affordable.
For what you are talking about though its $ 1360 a month. We do have a clean bill of health, no chronic conditions or high BP or diabetes, no history of cancer.
BTW what good is being able to see a doctor if you can't afford the prescriptions that would make you better, or keep you well?

If you join the military, the military provides good health care. As the military is like any other job (and at many times worse). If you join the Army, National Guard, Marines, you will be deployed. Yes, the soldiers are coming home in the future, but until they all come home. The units are on rotation. So there is a good chance of you being deployed. Maybe not to Iraq, but to Afghanistan.

Do you want to be away from your family for a good year? (deployment)You mention your husband has diabetes, can your family survive if you come home from a deployment and something is seriously wrong with you. Such as missing arm or leg, or you have PTSD. Will your husband be able to take care of you, if something happen? You can not expect your parents to take care of you, you are married.

You need to talk to your husband about this decision of yours. Don't talk to your parents, they have no involvement in this. Yes tell them what your plans are.

Also, if you make the military your career (except for the national guard). You will be stationed in many different places. Sometimes your family (husband and child) can move with you, sometimes families are not allowed.

Remember as the old saying goes.. If the military wanted you to have a family they would have issued you one.

My FIL was in the Army. He went to West Point. Being in the military career, married and 2 kids, he was stationed NY, Germany, OK, TX and PA. My husband was born in Germany (he is a US citizen, but because his father was stationed in Germany at the time my husband was born).

Then my husband joined the Army, stationed 3yrs active in Washington, came home to PA to join the National Guard, did 1yr tour in Iraq.

In general the military life is not a life for everyone. You as the soldier have to be strong and the family left at home have to be strong.

Do some search online on what part of the military you want to join. Each department of the military has their own website. Marines, Army, National Guard, Air force etc.. Check out their website. Whichever you seem interested in, go to a recruit station and talk to them. Get information. Go home and talk to your husband about it. If you and your husband thinks it's the right decision, then talk to your parents.

I agree with you, my husband has two insurances one from his 35 years service for a company he retired from at 55 and with the company he works for now, we both are eligible for medicare but our insurances pay first, now they want to tax us for that ! My husband is almost 69 and works because he loves what he does ! However with all this new crap he might as well quit, and save money. Go fishing everyday ! It really pays to take care of yourself and your family these days they are going to punish you for it !

Here's the basis for your dribble. You live in a $ 730,000 house and consider yourself 'middle class'? That just proves that you are completely out of touch with the realities of modern day America. You fail to mention how badly you feel that you benefit from others paying their taxes so you can having police and fire protection, from having highways and bridges to drive on, from having the US military and National Guard to serve and protect you. Wake up, stop your whining.

Is health care something you have to earn? Or is a basic human right?

You may have sacrificed a lot to get where you are, but that just means that you were luckier than the people who sacrificed a lot and got nowhere.

At any rate, affordable, accessible health care raises productivity. It's good for the country.

You do realize that when your insurance premiums go up, you ARE paying for someone else's health care.

When an uninsured person goes to the ER, the hospital then overcharges the insurance company for insured patients who in turn pass those costs along to you in the form of higher premiums.

And most people get insurance through their jobs so when they are laid off, boom, no more health insurance. And qualifying for COBRA always coincides with one's inability to pay for it.

So don't sit on your high horse and talk about people who sit on their "azz's", didn't plan, who had children out of wedlock, because you could be struck with a disease, hit by a drunk driver, or fall off your roof trying to adjust your sattelite dish. You could find yourself injured to the point that you can no longer work your 50-60 hours and in turn unable to pay for your health insurance. Stuff happens in life.

I put myself through college, I also have a successful career. I pay about $ 450 a month for health insurance, when I have a family, it will jump to $ 950 a month. But in college, I learned that things aren't black and white and anything can happen at anytime.
