Has anyone had any experience using the U of I, Chicago’s School of Dentistry clinic?
The question
I need my teeth worked on but don’t have dental insurance; work like root canals, crowns, replacing lost enamel, partials and tooth extraction. I know it sounds terrible, but I’ve place loads of money into my teeth and gums over the years. It’s been a long, downhill slide in my mouth.
I’m wondering if I just have to go there without an appointment and stand in line or something to have the students work on my teeth. Does anyone know about this? Help! I’ve got another dying tooth (this time in front) and I need serious help.

College next year, I want to go into Dentistry. Marquette or University of Illinois at Chicago?
The question
I am a senior in high school this year and I’m starting to look into colleges. I live in IL and my father is a professor at an IL university so I get half off in state tuition so my parents are rooting for an IL school. I go to Milwaukee every week and have fallen in like with Marquette and the city. When it comes down to it I want to go somewhere that is a better school and I would be more likely to get a job from. Right now my two picks are Marquette University and University of Illinois at Chicago. Which do you suggest is an overall better school. Also I want to specialize in orthodontics someday, is there a school that you reckon would be preferable to do that at? Thanks!

I am debating whether to attend marquette university or university of Illinois at chicago, which one is better
The question
I am plotting to go into a science related major and do predentistry. I plot to go to dental school at the same university that I do my apprentice at. I can’t seem to find any lists or rankings as to where the dental schools fall and so I am confused about which school is better for someone plotting to do dentistry. What do you reckon?

UIC’s dentistry program has historically been very strong; if you look at the class profiles, UIC and Marquette both have strong programs (albeit differently focused). UIC’s incoming classes generally have DAT academic scores about a point higher; Marquette’s incoming class (last year) had a DAT perceptual a small more than a half-point above the UIC score.
UIC has the Guaranteed Professional Program Admission program which gets you guaranteed admission to dental school. But, GPPA admission is highly competitive. Marquette has the Pre-Dental Scholars program which seems a bit less competitive than GPPA.
Other than that, the schools are very similar in terms of location relative to their cities and campus size. As a larger school UIC may have more electives that interest you. If you get interested in research, UIC has a larger research budget.
